Essential fatty acids can oxidise quickly after exposure to oxygen. Natural mixed tocopherols (GMO-free) have been added to the composition to protect the fatty acids in this product against oxidation. The Omega-3 Liquid is mixed and bottled under oxygen-free conditions. Room temperature also influences the speed of the oxidation process; for this reason it is recommended to store the bottle in

a cool place after opening. The fatty acids in this product are present in their natural triglyceride form and not in the form of ethyl esters (fatty acid esters). Ethyl acid esters are more often present in strongly concentrated fatty acid products. This drink oil does not taste like fish because of the very thorough purification process. The used fish species are mackerel, anchovies, sardines, herring, capelin, tuna and salmon in varying ratios.

Omega-3 Liquid contains polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil. Natural lemon aroma is added to the fish oil to improve taste. Polyunsaturated fatty acids are subdivided in omega-3 fatty acids (fatty acids derived from alpha linolenic acid, ALA) and omega-6 fatty acids (fatty acids derived from linoleic acid). Strictly speaking only linoleic acid and alpha linolenic acid are essential fatty acids, because the body can make its own metabolites derived from them. However, in case

of omega-3 fatty acids it is difficult for the body to obtain enough EPA and DHA from alpha linolenic acid, since this conversion takes place via the same enzymes as in the omega-6 pathway. Due to

the imbalance between omega-6 and omega-3 in the western diet, the conversion of omega-3

(ALA) is therefore very inefficient.

In the western diet the ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids has strongly shifted towards omega-6 fatty acids in the twentieth century. This is particularly due to the use of linoleic acid-rich vegetable oils and fats and a decrease in the consumption of fish. The ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids in the Western diet is app. 20-25:1, whereas a ratio of app. 5:1 is advisable. From an evolutionary point of view, human beings have consumed omega-6 and omega-3 fats in a ratio

of (probably) 1:1 for millions of years. Many people would benefit from supplementing their diet with omega-3 fatty acids.

The drink oil is practical in its use, especially when higher doses have to be taken. If desired, the liquid can be complemented with EPA Forte, DHA Forte or Prim Omega.

Most important characteristics of Omega-3 Liquid:

  • The fatty acids in this product are present in the natural triglyceride form and not in the form

of ethyl esters (fatty acid esters)

  • Contains natural mixed tocopherols to prevent oxidation
  • The liquid does not taste like fish because of the very thorough purification process
  • Pleasant, natural lemon taste
  • Particularly suitable for treatment with high-dose fish oil
  • Also suitable for people who cannot swallow (fish oil) capsules
  • Pours oil conveniently and doses easily without spilling
  • Easy to mix with other foods (e.g., a salad dressing)
  • Fish oil is derived from fish relating to anchovy and sardine
  • Mixed and bottled in oxygen-free conditions, which ensures that fatty acids stay stable and fresh as long as possible

Maintenance dose: once or twice a day one teaspoon (1.5 - 3 ml). This corresponds with an amount of app. 400-800 mg EPA + DHA per day. Take during or immediately after a meal. Preferably spread your intake evenly throughout the day. The oil can also be used in salads and fruit juices. The oil cannot be used for baking, roasting or frying. The dose can be increased to 5 to 10 grams of both

fatty acids, if necessary. It generally takes 1 to 4 months before the effects of omega-3 fatty acids are noticeable.

Using high doses of fish oil (more than 5 grams of EPA + DHA per day) may increase the chance of diarrhoea.
Caution is advised for users of anticoagulants (blood thinners). There is an increased risk of internal haemorrhaging when using doses of more than 3 grams of EPA + DHA per day (9 grams of Omega-3 Liquid or more). Interactions with regular medication and other natural health products may occur. Please consult an expert about this.

Simultaneous use of Vitamin E-400 complex (at least 400 IU per day) is strongly recommended due

to the high degree of unsaturation of omega-3 fatty acids. The amount of natural mixed tocopherols in the Bonusan omega-3-products is sufficient to prevent oxidation. However, fatty acid oxidation

can also occur in the body and hence protection through the simultaneous use of extra vitamin E

is strongly recommended.
