Lutein is an antioxidant carotenoid that occurs in nature with zeaxanthin, a closely related carotenoid. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found naturally in the part of the eye responsible for central vision called the macula. Lutein and zeaxanthin can be found in dark green, leafy vegetables.
