If the name of a product refers to an amount of glucosamine then this should only refer to the amount of elementary glucosamine (e.g. "Glucosamine 600 mg"), however, this is often not
the case. To avoid confusion, Bonusan also indicates the corresponding amount of glucosamine sulphate. However, in scientific studies we still regularly find that (only) the amount of elementary glucosamine is indicated. The dose commonly used in scientific research is 1500 mg glucosamine sulphate. This corresponds to 1182 mg elementary glucosamine. Again, this corresponds to two tablets of Glucosamine 600 mg (1200 mg).
DESCRIPTION
Glucosamine is an important building block for articular lining cartilage. If the endogenous glucosamine production is not adequate the body can also obtain glucosamine from food. However, there are only few food sources rich in glucosamine. It naturally occurs in larger quantities in cartilage and the tough parts of crustaceans; such sources are usually not regarded as food.
It is still uncertain how glucosamine works, but in general there seem to be two different effects. Firstly, it provides the substrate for the production of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans
(like chondroitin sulphate and hyaluronan). Secondly, glucosamine possesses an anabolic stimulus:
it stimulates the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans and collagen.
Most important features of Glucosamine 600 mg:
- Natural glucosamine from shrimp shells
- 2 tablets per day provide 1200 mg elementary glucosamine (1522 mg glucosamine sulphate)
- Provides per daily dose 22 mg more glucosamine than the dose often proven by research to be effective (=1500 mg glucosamine sulphate)
- Glucosamine 600 mg is very economical in its use
USE
Take 1 tablet twice daily, during or immediately after a meal.
