Until recently, the general opinion was that glutathione did not have a high enough bioavailability to be useful in oral administration as a dietary supplement. This only seems to be true for low

doses (50 mg per day). Proteases in the gastrointestinal tract destroy the majority of the glutathione at such a low dose; a significant part survives when using doses above 50 mg per day.

The surprisingly high bioavailability appears to be linked to a specific absorption system for glutathione in the intestinal wall which has been discovered recently. The absorption rate does

not increase in proportion to the dose; the use of higher doses decreases the efficiency of absorption.

DESCRIPTION
The antioxidant glutathione is found in all the body cells in relatively high concentrations and is

an important indicator of the cell function and viability of the cell. The body makes its own glutathione; a (small) portion comes from foods such as fresh vegetables, fruit, seafood and

meat products. Glutathione has two forms: the reduced form (GSH) and the oxidised form

(GSSG, i.e. glutathione disulfide).

The term "glutathione" generally refers to reduced glutathione (GSH). Glutathione only has a protective effect in the body when present in reduced form.
Glutathione plays an essential role in the immune system. The availability of glutathione is a

limiting factor in the activity of lymphocytes after being in contact with an antigen. Glutathione also regenerates the condition of red and white blood cells. Glutathione supports the cleansing of

the liver and is an important antioxidant that also makes other antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E, alpha lipoic acid en coenzyme Q10) suitable for recycling. It supports the lung function in that capacity (protects against free radicals) and protects the nerve tissue and the brain from aging.

It also protects against lipid peroxidation.

USE
Take 1 capsule daily, during or immediately after a meal. There is a reasonable chance that a

too large percentage of glutathione will be destroyed in the intestinal wall when using less than

100 mg glutathione a day. One way to avoid the proteases is by dissolving the content of one

or more capsules in water, then stirring well and drink. Research shows that direct contact of glutathione with the mucous membranes of the mouth has a beneficial effect on absorption.

Already more than 60% of the glutathione is absorbed when taking the glutathione capsules in

the regular way in doses of 100 mg to 200 mg per day. The surprisingly high bioavailability appears

to be linked to a specific absorption system for glutathione in the intestinal wall which has been discovered recently. The absorption rate does not increase in proportion to the dose; the use of higher doses decreases the efficiency of the absorption. The capsule may be opened if experiencing difficulties with swallowing.
